South Luangwa National Park
South Luangwa National Park is widely regarded as one of the greatest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa, and is the birthplace of the walking safari. The park's concentration of wildlife, particularly during the dry season when animals gather along the Luangwa River, is extraordinary. Leopards are frequently seen here, and South Luangwa is considered one of the best places in Africa to spot these elusive cats. The park is also home to large populations of hippos, elephants, giraffes, and a unique subspecies of giraffe known as the Thornicroft's giraffe. Night drives are permitted in the park, offering the chance to see nocturnal species. The small town of Mfuwe serves as the gateway to the park, with a selection of lodges and bush camps located both inside and outside the park boundaries.
